’28 Years Later’: Watch Aaron Taylor-Johnson get chased by zombies in explosive first official trailer
The first official trailer for 28 Years Later has finally been shared – check it out below.
Last week, the release date and a teaser poster with the tagline, “Time didn’t heal anything,” were shared for Danny Boyle’s highly anticipated zombie sequel.
As previously confirmed Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes will all star in 28 Years Later, and all of them feature in the trailer, which you can view below.
Jack O’Connell also has a supporting role in the new movie, which is part of a new trilogy spearheaded by Boyle and Alex Garland.
It was also previously confirmed that Cillian Murphy, who played bicycle courier Jim in the first movie in the series 28 Days Later, would be returning for the current sequel “in a surprising way and in a way that grows [the character]”.
Although it has not been confirmed, one of the zombies in the trailer bears a striking resemblance to the Oscar winner. Murphy will also take on producer duties on the project too.
Speaking to NME in 2022 about a potential return to the franchise, Murphy said: “I think there’s a problem with that, in that I’m 20 years older… but every time I do bump into Danny or Alex I always mention it. Because I showed it to my kids recently, some Halloween about four or five years ago, and they loved it. It really stands up, which is amazing for a film that’s 20 years old. So yeah, I love the idea and it’s very appealing to me.”
The film’s official synopsis reads (via Variety): “It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected.
“One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”
The film has been shot back-to-back with 28 Years Later II: The Bone Temple, the second film in the trilogy, which is directed by Nia DaCosta.
Speaking to NME in 2022, Boyle confirmed that Garland had written a script for a potential sequel to 2007’s 28 Weeks Later with a “lovely idea” at the centre of it.
“It feels like a very good time actually,” he continued. “It’s funny, I hadn’t thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered ‘Bang, this script!’ which is again set in England, very much about England.”
28 Years Later will be released on June 20, 2025.
