Miley Cyrus & Pharrell’s ‘Doctor (Work It Out)’ Is In: Stream It Now
The doctor will see you now. Miley Cyrus‘ long awaited collaboration with Pharrell “Doctor (Work It Out)” went live on streaming services Friday (March 1), marking the singer’s first release since her 2023 single “Used to Be Young.”
The groovy dance track — which has Pharrell’s stylistic fingerprints all over it — finds Cyrus taking on the role of love doctor. “I could be a doctor and I could be a nurse,” she sings. “I think I see the problem, it’s only gonna get worse … Just show me where it hurts/ I need to rock you baby, before your body burns/ Can we work it out?”
The team-up has reportedly been in the works for over a decade, with “Doctor (Work It Out)” originally intended to appear on but apparently scrapped from Cyrus’ 2013 album Bangerz. In January, Pharrell teased the single at the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter 2024 Collection presentation in Paris.
The pair first confirmed that the song was on its way earlier this week before nailing down its official release date Wednesday (Feb. 28). Cyrus also shared a snippet of the track, along with a video of her dancing along in a sparkly fringe dress and majorly teased hairstyle.
It’s unclear whether the release of “Doctor” signifies the beginning of a new musical era for Cyrus, whose latest album Endless Summer Vacation arrived in March 2023 and reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The record also spawned the Hannah Montana alum’s second-ever No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100; “Flowers,” which reigned for a whopping eight weeks and earned Cyrus her first and second Grammys — best pop vocal performance and record of the year — at the 2024 awards.
