Metro Boomin Announces Special One-Off Show at Pyramids of Giza in Egypt
Metro Boomin is taking his show on the road to Egypt later this month. On Tuesday, the “Young Metro” rapper announced that he has booked a gig at the Great Pyramids complex in Giza, Egypt on April 30.
“In other news I’m doing a show at the Pyramids in Giza [three head exploding emoji],” Boomin tweeted along with an image of the show poster, which depicts the MC rocking a black puffer jacket while posing in front of an image of the three pyramids and the Sphinx. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Giza complex is comprised of of the Great Pyramid, as well as the Pyramids of Khafre and Menakaure, as well as other pyramids and the Great Sphinx.
The pyramid complex has been the site of a number of shows over the years, including the famed Grateful Dead three-gig 1978 series that was later released as the live album Rocking the Cradle: Egypt 1978. Shakira played a show for an estimated 100,000 fans at the complex in 2007.
Metro’s gig comes a little under a year after Travis Scott tried to book a gig at the pyramids, which he ultimately canceled due to what producer Live Nation dubbed “complex production issues.”
Rapper/producer Boomin riding high at the moment after his single with Future and Kendrick Lamar, “Like That,” rocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Boom’s first Hot 100 leader as a billed recording artist, following two as a writer and producer; the song is Future and K-Dot’s third Hot 100 leader each. The single was one of five from Future and Metro’s joint album, We Don’t Trust You, which debuted in the top 10; the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
