NME’s latest star of The Cover, Wisp, has shared a playlist exclusively to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The shoegaze artist is on this week’s (April 8) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Wisp here, written by Mia Hughes and featuring photography by Kristen Jan Wong.

Accompanying the story is an exclusive playlist of songs Wisp has compiled, featuring Beach House, Slow Pulp, They Are Gutting A Body Of Water and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

Wisp – aka San Francisco native Natalie Lu – is among a wave of young artists spearheading a renaissance in shoegaze, a genre that is near and dear to Lu’s heart. She “[doesn’t] want to be part of any other genre”, she tells NME, and even if her music may evolve in other directions in future, “I wanna make it known that all of this fame was because of the shoegaze genre, and because I grew up listening to all of these local bands and all of these staple acts like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine.”

In April, Wisp released her debut EP ‘Pandora’ – which came months after she made her live debut at the Genghis Cohen club in LA, where she also met fans who told her how much her music meant to them. “It touches me a lot because I used to be a diehard fangirl for music that made me feel that way,” she tells NME. “Seeing people feel that way about my music is super cool. And that made me realise like, ‘Wow, people actually like my music, and it’s something that I wanna continue doing.’”
