Fans of Ed Sheeran have been likening his Met Gala suit to Zac Efron in High School Musical 3 and Jeff Daniels in Dumb & Dumber.

The singer-songwriter attended the New York event last night (May 6) and was pictured on the red carpet alongside the likes of FKA Twigs, Stella McCartney and Cara Delevingne.

His shiny light blue suit sparked a huge reaction on social media with one fan writing: “Ed Sheeran at the #MetGala is giving Harry Dunne from Dumb & Dumber but I love it.”

Others compared his outfit to Zac Efron’s from the prom scene in High School Musical 3. “Can’t believe Ed Sheeran chose to bring Troy Boltons tux from the HSM 3 prom scene back to life for the #MetGala,” one fan wrote.

Another added: “I love Ed Sheeran cosplaying as Troy Bolton at the #MetGala.”

On the night, Sheeran was also pictured with Thor star Chris Hemsworth.

He was among a host of celebrities who attended this year’s event including Lana Del Rey and Dua Lipa. The former posed for photos with Kim Kardashian which left many Taylor Swift fans confused, given the two having a long-running feud.

Elsewhere, Katy Perry debunked two photos depicting her in forest-themed dresses at the event as AI.

A few hours after the first viral photo was posted, Perry took to Instagram to share the pictures, along with a screenshot of a conversation she had with her mother, who had believed the pictures to be real.

“Lol mom, the AI got you too, BEWARE!,” she replied to her mom, who texted her “What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float.” She added: “Couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work.”

Meanwhile, Sheeran recently said that he is working on new music but it’ll likely be a while before it’s released, and shared details of a one-off show to celebrate 10 years of his album ‘X’.
