Check out Static Dress’ explosive new single ‘Crying’

Static Dress, 2024

Static Dress are back with the dynamic new single, ‘Crying’. Check it out below.

Released today (May 15), the new track marks the first new music from the Leeds rock band in two years, following their ‘Rouge Carpet Disaster (Redux)’ album.

With the track, the post-hardcore quartet push the boundaries of their sound further than we’ve seen before and kick start a new chapter in their discography with the intense single.

I hope you’ve changed, you’ve had time to grow/ Like the seeds in the backyard, our love died in the cold/ Pray some day, we just won’t need it/ We’re waking up paralyzed, just repeat once more,” frontman Olli Appleyard sings in the opening lyrics.

It also comes with a captivating and sinister music video, which the vocalist describes as exploring “several themes of the song’s lyrical character, revolving around taboo topics presented as a battle between the sacred and the profane.”

“Rather than focusing solely on striking presentation and the visual stimulation of colour and design, we ask the viewer to travel through multiple scenes, all with their own subject matter; guilt and battling with self-loathing, mass corporate manipulation, capitalist horde mentality and weaponised lust,” Appleyard added.

“We hope to provoke further questions and conversation with this piece… aiming to push the boundaries of our own storytelling and visual presentation in a way that exhibits the growth we’ve experienced in recent years.”

As for the new direction, a press release describes Static Dress as opening themselves to more “fragile, almost guttural tones” in 2024, and determining to blur genres more than before to create “an energy completely unique to their own world”.

The new song comes following the band recently going on tour with Sheffield rock icons Bring Me The Horizon, and ahead of a number of live shows lined up this summer.

These include a mammoth run of performances later this year in support of Underoath, as well as a slot at the 2000trees Festival in July. Find a list of shows below, and visit here for remaining tickets to US shows and UK shows.

In other recent Static Dress news, it was shared back in March that the rising UK hardcore/art-punk band had teamed up with Gameboy and were set to release a game.

Titled Rouge Carpet Disaster: The Video Game, it built on the world established in Static Dress’ debut album ‘Rouge Carpet Disaster’, which was originally released in 2022.
