One of the ‘Elden Ring’ DLC’s “fearsome foes” looks like a uterus
Elden Ring‘s upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, will have “fearsome foes of unfathomable power”, and, in-keeping with FromSoftware’s frequent use of body, mother, and childbirth imagery, one looks like a uterus and ovaries.
The fearsome foe in question is hunched over with their arms beside them holding vicious curved blades. The creature has a shattered golden mask and numerous twisted horns growing from their head. This looks like a boss, but knowing FromSoftware it could just as easily be a standard enemy.
This enemy being posed to look like reproductive organs is likely no mistake, as this is a theme consistent throughout Elden Ring. There’s a cocoon on an altar in the optional Mohgwyn Palace area. You can find it after beating Mohg, Lord of Blood. An arm hangs down from it, and the whole thing looks like a ruptured womb.
Many believe this to be Miquella, returned to a womb to grow. The altar’s pelvic shape lends authority to this theory.

There are many other instances of motherhood themes throughout Elden Ring. One is Rennala birthing temporary new lives, or the Omen Twins being rejected by their birth mother. There’s also Melina trying to pursue the purpose her mother bestowed upon her. Bloodborne was filled with imagery of birth and motherhood, too, so this is all very on brand for FromSoftware.
In the replies to the tweet announcing the enemy, people are theorising who it could be. One person believes it to be Godwyn, a twin to Mohg and and Morgott. Another person thinks it’s a female character because their toes are out, referencing a community joke that creator Miyazaki has a thing for feet in Elden Ring.
Shadow of the Erdtree will be coming out June 21.
In other news, even Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s composers don’t know why Stamp’s song was so popular.
