Watch Ed Sheeran debut old favourites and play rarities at ‘X’ 10th-anniversary show in New York

Ed Sheeran performs live

Ed Sheeran has broken out a number of old favourites and rarities at his recent ‘X’ 10th anniversary show in New York. Find footage of the gig and the full setlist below.

The gig took place at the historic Barclays Center in New York last night (May 22), and marked a special one-off show from the singer-songwriter to celebrate 10 years since the release of his now iconic sophomore album, ‘X’.

To mark the milestone, Sheeran broke out a complete rendition of the album’s tracklist at the venue – launching with opening track ‘One’, and proceeding to play the release in its entirety, start to finish.

As well as fan favourites including ‘Photograph’, ‘Sing’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’, the setlist also saw Sheeran perform a number of songs for the first time in years, and break out some of the tracks for their first-ever live rendition.

Both ‘New York’ and ‘Nina’ for instance, were given an airing out for the first time in 10 years – with Sheeran last performing them both just after his second album dropped.

It was a similar case for ‘Runaway’, ‘The Man’, ‘Afire Love’ and ‘English Rose’, which all got played at the Brooklyn venue for the first time since 2015. For both ‘Nina’ and ‘Afire Love’, the singer told with the crowd that he was out of practice when it came to playing the tracks live after so long, with both of them having a false start as he joked that he “fucked it up”.

The gig at Barclays Center also saw the pop star break out a number of tracks for their live debut.

‘Shirtsleeves’, for instance, was performed live for the first time ever on the night, as were ‘Even My Dad Does Sometimes’ and ‘Touch And Go’. The first two are featured at the end of the 2014 sophomore album, while the latter was released exclusively on the 2014 Wembley edition of ‘X’.

‘I See Fire’ also appeared in the setlist – which featured in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – as did the song ‘All of the Stars’, which is taken from The Fault In Our Stars movie.

Finally, the singer wrapped up the 24-song setlist on the night by delivering four tracks from outside of his catalogue. These included a cover of Foy Vance’s ‘Make It Rain’, Rudimental’s ‘Lay It All On Me’ and a rendition of the traditional folk track ‘The Parting Glass’. The last song of the night was a cover of the legendary Leonard Cohen song ‘Hallelujah’ – which Sheeran performed acoustically, while a choir surrounded him.

Outside the original tracklist, nine bonus tracks feature on the individual formats of the anniversary editions. All of these have never been released on vinyl up until now, and include the aforementioned ‘I See Fire’ and ‘All of the Stars’.

Last week, it was revealed that the singer, songwriter and guitarist was the highest listed musician on The Sunday Times’ 2024 Rich List: the 40 Under 40 division. He was named alongside artists including Dua Lipa, Adele and Harry Styles.

Before then, he made a surprise visit to the Fairlight Primary and Nursery School to meet young students and deliver a three-track acoustic performance in a special assembly.
