Eminem announces new single ‘Houdini’, coming this week
Eminem has announced a new single called ‘Houdini’ in a FaceTime call with magician David Blaine – watch the video below.
Last month saw the rapper confirm that his 12th studio album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’, would be arriving this summer. He recently hinted that the first track from the project would be out this week, sharing an iMessage-style screenshot that read: “…and for my last trick!”
Today (May 29), Marshall Mathers posted a 49-second video in which he video calls Blaine to ask him for his “help with something”. When the magician agrees, Mathers tells him he’s “the greatest to ever do it”.
Blaine responds: “We should do something together one time.” Eminem continues: “So what I was wondering is, how far can we go with this magic? Like, can we do like a stunt or something?”
The magician then drinks some wine and goes on to start eating the glass. Eminem adds: “Well for my last trick, I’m going to make my career disappear.”

At the end of the teaser, the title ‘Houdini’ appears onscreen along with the date “5.31.24” – confirming that the song will be out this Friday (May 31). A brief instrumental snippet soundtracks the final moments. Tune in above.
‘Houdini’ appears to have been inspired by Harry Houdini – who, like Blaine, was an escape artist, illusionist and stunt performer. He began his magic career in 1891, and died in 1926.
‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’ will follow on from 2020’s ‘Music To Be Murdered By’. The record is due to arrive this summer, but an exact release date is not yet known. You can pre-order it here.
Earlier this month, Eminem ran a fake Slim Shady obituary in a Detroit Newspaper to tease his next LP. Eagle-eyed fans later noticed that a clue seemed to be hidden in the eulogy, and speculated that the odd punctuation in the subhead – which read “Fans ‘Will Never Forget’ Controversial Rapper” – may be the title of one of the tracks.
