Star Wars fans confused by big name actor’s death “five minutes” into ‘The Acolyte’
Warning: Spoilers ahead
Star Wars fans have been left reeling by the shock of a major name actor being killed off in the opening minutes of the new prequel series The Acolyte.
The show is set 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and the first two episodes were released to streaming on Disney+ on June 4.
The Acolyte has been created by Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland and it stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give, Bodies Bodies Bodies) in the twin lead roles of Osha and Mae. The two characters are raised by a coven of witches, led by Jodie Turner-Smith, and are separated by tragedy, with Osha training as a Jedi before lapsing, while Mae turns to the dark side.
In the opening moments of the first episode, we see a mysterious woman enter a bar and kill the Jedi Master Indara, played by Carrie-Anne Moss. Despite the actress’ high profile, and the fact that her character is presented as a powerful Jedi Master proficient in ‘Force-fu’ fighting, Indara does not survive past the first five minutes of The Acolyte, and it has left some fans confused.
One X user reacted by asking: “Why yall make Carrie-Anne Moss get out of bed if you’re just gonna waste her like that”.
“I swear if you hyped up a Carrie Anne moss Jedi only for her role to be THAT small, imma force choke someone,” wrote another.
Some are also speculating that Moss’ role in the show might not be as short-lived as it first appeared. See some other reactions to Moss’ role in the show below:

Cannot BELIEVE that disney suckered me into watching this show by telling me Carrie-Anne Moss would be in it and then she dies fewer than five minutes in.

I can’t be the only one who thinks Carrie-Anne moss did not get cast in the acolyte, only to die in the opening scene right?

Moss is best known for playing Trinity in The Matrix franchise, and has also starred in Memento, Chocolat, Disturbia and Jessica Jones.
In a four-star review of the show, NME wrote: “As with everything in Star Wars, balance is everything – but it feels like Headland has managed to walk a finer line than most with The Acolyte. It’s new, without feeling unconnected. Pristine, but not too shiny. Fun, but still substantial. It feels like a place to grow from, as well as a worthy stand-alone story in its own right.”
With the first two episodes now streaming, the remaining six instalments will be released weekly, with the final one due on July 16.
