Watch Soccer Mommy and Phoebe Bridgers duet Elliott Smith cover at an L.A. show

Soccer Mommy and Phoebe Bridgers have performed a live cover of an Elliott Smith track – you can watch the performance below.

Earlier this week (June 4), Soccer Mommy performed at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles, California. During the set, she brought out a surprise guest in Phoebe Bridgers, who walked onstage to raucous applause.

After a short embrace, the two musicians performed a cover of Elliott Smith’s ‘The Biggest Lie’. Both Soccer Mommy and Phoebe Bridgers have been longtime fans of Smith, with the latter even writing the title-track of her hit album ‘Punisher’ about her admiration for Smith.

Elsewhere during the set, Soccer Mommy debuted three tracks live in front of an audience: ‘Abigail’, ‘Thinking Of You’ and ‘Changes’. She also performed ‘Blossom (Wasting All My Time)’ and ‘Try’ live for the first time since 2019. Footage of the debuts have yet to make their way online.

Soccer Mommy has also recently teased the song ‘Lost’, which is due to release at midnight (June 7). Check out the teaser clip here.

In a four-star review of ‘Sometimes, Forever’, Mia Hughes wrote for NME: “Whether she’s exorcising demons or shaking hands with them, Allison explores in ever more depth how to channel that most potently. The reductive tags that may have previously been assigned to Soccer Mommy – sad, chill, nostalgic – have no foothold here. This is nuanced, purposeful songwriting from an artist growing in power.”

On the Phoebe Bridgers front, February saw Boygenius win three Grammy Awards: Best Rock Performance (‘Not Strong Enough’), Best Rock Song (‘Not Strong Enough’) and Best Alternative Music Album (‘The Record’).

It came shortly after the trio announced their hiatus at a secret show in LA. “We’re going away for the foreseeable future,” fans quoted them as saying. “This is our last show, and we’re feeling it.”

Back in December, Boygenius told NME that they liked the idea of the band’s future remaining “a surprise” after their debut LP ‘The Record’ was named our album of the year for 2023.
