Taylor Swift defends Lady Gaga amid pregnancy speculation: “It’s invasive and irresponsible”
Taylor Swift has expressed her support for Lady Gaga following online speculation that the latter singer was pregnant.
Rumours that Gaga was with child began circulating after photos emerged of the star at her sister’s wedding. Gaga subsequently took to TikTok to deny the claims.
“Not pregnant – just down bad cryin at the gym,” she wrote in the video, referencing Swift’s song ‘Down Bad’ from her latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. Gaga also used the clip to encourage her fans to vote in the 2024 presidential election.
Later, Swift commented on the post to defend the ‘Chromatica’ artist and criticise the public’s interest in women’s appearances – particularly those in the limelight.
“Can we all agree that it’s invasive & irresponsible to comment on a woman’s body,” she wrote. “Gaga doesn’t owe anyone an explanation & neither does any woman.”

In 2020, Swift hit back at comments about her appearance and opened up about battling an eating disorder in her Miss Americana documentary.
She explained how seeing “pictures of [herself] every day” had impacted her health and eventually triggered a disorder.
“[I’ve seen] a picture of me where I feel like I looked like my tummy was too big, or…someone said that I looked pregnant… and that’ll just trigger me to just starve a little bit – just stop eating,” Swift continued.
During an interview with Variety around the film’s release, she said: “I remember how, when I was 18, that was the first time I was on the cover of a magazine. And the headline was like ‘Pregnant at 18?’
“And it was because I had worn something that made my lower stomach look not flat. So I just registered that as a punishment.”
Swift is due to begin the UK and Ireland leg of her ongoing ‘Eras Tour’ in Edinburgh tomorrow (June 7). She’ll also visit Liverpool, Cardiff and Dublin as part of the run, and play eight sold-out concerts at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Paramore will open for Swift at every gig. Recently, the singer confirmed more support acts for the first three Wembley dates.
Last month, it was reported that the upcoming shows will boost the UK economy by £1billion.
In other news, Lady Gaga has released her new concert film Gaga Chromatica Ball and shared some details about her next album, saying it’s “nothing like anything I’ve ever made before”.
