Iggy Pop, Joy Division, Smashing Pumpkins and more to soundtrack new ‘Mixtape’ game
Annapurna Interactive have revealed their next title, Mixtape.
During the Xbox Games Showcase last night (June 9), Mixtape was unveiled through its first trailer. A coming-of-age story like Life Is Strange, Mixtape tells the story of three high school friends who relive their fondest memories and “experience the freedom of the teenage wasteland” through the power of music.
Inspired by films such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and soundtracked by the likes of Devo, Roxy Music, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lush, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and more, Mixtape promises to be a treat for the senses.

An official description of Mixtape reads: “En route to their final party together, a perfectly curated playlist draws them into dreamlike reenactments of their formative memories. Experience a variety of narrative vignettes exploring the pivotal moments that shaped them. It’s the greatest hits of teenage friendship, from the first kiss to the last dance.”
Mixtape has yet to receive a firm release date, but is due to arrive on on Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2025. The game is confirmed for Game Pass at launch, and is due to arrive on PS5 and PC as well.
Other new games that were announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 include Doom: The Dark Ages – a prequel to the 2016 Doom reboot – and Gears Of War: E-Day, a prequel set 14 years before the event of the first Gears Of War title.
