‘Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater’: what’s new and everything we know so far
Metal Gear: Solid Snake Eater is a timeless game, widely considered to be the best in the franchise, and publisher Konami is now taking another stab at the the series. This time, Virtuos is at the helm, and from the looks of it, Konami looks to be giving everyone what they want.
The story and gameplay look to be relatively unchanged and honour the original. Below, you can find a complete rundown of everything we know about the remake and the fact it might be coming sooner than you think.
‘Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater’ gameplay updates
The latest trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater has offered up a ton of details about the game, as well as the game’s official website, including how it will play. Firstly, the game will upgrade the original’s system by causing permanent injuries on Snake. So, if he gets shot or stabbed, cuts and tears in his clothing will be left and leave permanent marks, bruises, and even wounds.
This is an interesting twist on the formula, and we have to wonder how it will affect gameplay (or if it will be purely visual) if Snake is walking around with several bullet wounds.
The game will also include two new playstyles. Legacy offers the overhead camera and controls of the original game, while the other has the third-person camera, which was seen in the game’s re-release and in the trailers so far.
‘Metal Gear: Solid Snake’ Eater release date leak
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater‘s release date was seemingly leaked by Gamestop on X/Twitter, after the game’s edition went up for pre-order, as November 17, 2024.
The post has since been deleted, and this isn’t likely the actual date as the 17th is a Sunday, which would be a strange day for a game to release.
Even though this date is likely incorrect, it does suggest that the game could be closer than we first thought. Discussion online has suggested that the game is still quite a way away, however, this could mean it will arrive later this year or in early 2025 still. The pre-orders for the editions of the game also went live suddenly with no prior announcement, which could suggest a date confirmation isn’t too far away.
We will keep you updated on the latest from Konami as more of the game is revealed.
The game was one of several showcased in 2024’s Xbox Games Showcase and you can catch up on everything shown off here.
