Oprah Winfrey in hospital with stomach virus
Oprah Winfrey has been admitted to hospital with a stomach virus, her friend Gayle King has revealed.
Earlier this week (June 11), Winfrey was absent from a scheduled appearance on CBS Mornings. King, who is also on CBS, revealed during the scheduled segment that Winfrey was unable to appear on the show due to a “serious” stomach bug.
King explained: “She had some kind of stomach thing – stomach flu – stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV. It was a very serious thing.”
King went on to say Winfrey was going to “rally” from the stomach virus, but she needed time to rest in the interim.
“She will be okay. I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail,” King added. “But I wanted to make it clear, though, that it mattered to her and that it really bothered her that she couldn’t be here for you today.”
In a statement shared to People, a spokesperson said Winfrey is now “recovering” following the virus and that she “received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor.”
They added: “She is resting and feeling better every day.”
The news was also covered on the official Instagram account for Oprah Daily, which you can see above.
“@oprah was scheduled to go on @cbsmornings today to announce her latest @oprahsbookclub selection. When she came down with a stomach virus over the weekend, @gayleking – being the best friend she is – offered to make the announcement for her. We are happy to share that after receiving an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor, Oprah is feeling much better. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
Meanwhile last year, Winfrey praised Beyoncé‘s acclaimed ‘Renaissance’ tour, describing it as “the most extraordinary show” she has seen.
The legendary host took to Instagram last August to share a review of the July 29 stop of Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ tour in New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. In the video, Oprah said: “I have never in my life experienced anything like that. I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t scream, I was in awe. I am in awe of that kind of talent, that kind of synergy, what it takes to do that, that kind of expression, that kind of anointing.”
Oprah continued: “I mean that is a thing that’s coming straight from a source that creates the planet. That is like the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever seen. The most extraordinary show I’ve ever seen.”
