‘The Penguin’ trailer reveals what happened after ‘The Batman’
A new trailer for the upcoming series The Penguin has given DC fans an idea of what happens after the end of The Batman.
The 2022 story of one of DC’s most iconic superheroes, starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, ended with Paul Dano’s Riddler destroying the sea wall and flooding Gotham, leaving the city in disrepair Batman aiding recovery efforts. Check out the trailer below.
While fans will have to wait another couple of years for the sequel, with the current release date for Part II being October 2, 2026, the newest trailer for upcoming spin-off series The Penguin has hinted at what they can expect.
Starring Colin Farrell as the supervillain, alongside How I Met Your Mother’s Cristin Milioti and Runaways’ Rhenzy Feliz, the series is scheduled to debut in the US on Max in September. Also joining the cast are Clancy Brown, Michael Zegen, Michael Kelly and Mark Strong.
The trailer opens with shots of Gotham completely flooded by the events of The Batman, with Farrell’s character saying: “Look at this, what that mad man did,” before a black screen teases “The Next Chapter”.
The trailer then introduces the story, following on from the death of mob boss Carmine Falcone, showing the various contenders to potentially take his place at the top. Here we meet Carmine’s children: his son Alberto and daughter Sofia, both as seemingly competitive and ruthless as each other.
Farrell’s unrecognisable Penguin, complete with gold teeth and heavy prosthetics makeup, is seen meeting with another possible contender, Salvatore Maroni, head of the rival mob.
Fans have taken to social media to show their excitement. One user praised Farrell’s performance, writing: “I can’t wait to see this show. Colin as penguin was great in the batman but never thought we would have a whole show with him. We’re in for a treat!” while another wrote: “This is what I’ve been talking about. The trailer is filled with STORY and CHARACTERS. It’s not trying to be GOT or BB. It’s just a story about mobsters and a power vacuum”.
The series was created by Lauren LeFranc, and produced by The Batman’s Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark among others. It will consist of eight episodes, and will be available to stream on Max.
