Paul Heaton announces new Ian Broudie-produced album ‘The Mighty Several’ and UK tour with The Zutons
Paul Heaton has announced his new Ian Broudie-produced album ‘The Mighty Several’ and has shared a new single ‘Fish ‘N’ Chip Supper’.
‘The Mighty Several’ is set for release on October 11 – which is available for pre-order here – and follows his 2022 LP ‘N.K-pop‘ with Jacqui Abbott. The Housemartins and Beautiful South legend’s upcoming album was recorded at Blueprint Studios in Salford and was produced by Broudie of the Lightning Seeds.
The album is comprised of 12 tracks, with some featuring special guests such as Rianne Downey (Heaton’s regular live vocalist), Yvonne Shelton and Danny Muldoon. The featured artists are all pictured alongside Heaton on the album’s artwork. The announcement of the new album comes a week prior to Heaton’s slated performance at the Pyramid Stage at this year’s edition of Glastonbury.
Written by Heaton and guitarist Jonny Lexus, ‘Fish ‘N’ Chip Supper’ serves as the lead single of the album. The track features the anthemic chorus: “And we’re all walking back to our lovers / back to our husbands and wives / holding on to fish n chip suppers / and clinging on to dear life,” soundtracking the ups and downs of a relationship.
‘The Mighty Several’ tracklist is:
1. ‘National Treasure’
2. ‘Quicksand’
3. ‘After The Sugar Rush’
4. ‘Fish ‘N’ Chip Supper’
5. ‘H Into Hurt’
6. ‘Silly Me’
7. ‘Small Boats’
8. ‘Just Another Family’
9. ‘Pull Up A Seat’
10. ‘The Blues Came In’
11. ‘Couldn’t Get Dead’
12. ‘Walk On, Slow Down’

Back in 2022, Heaton spoke to NME about buying everyone a free round in at 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland in celebration of his 60th birthday.
“It was brilliant. I expected a few people to say, ‘Oh cheers!’ – but I got video after video of people drinking, stories about people meeting new friends and talking to people all day, and it was good for the pubs,” Heaton told NME. “At the time I thought, ‘This is a bit of a silly idea’, but as it got nearer the day I knew I really wanted to do something like that. I was shocked by how much coverage it got, but also by how much people loved it. I’m just expecting for other artists to start doing it now!”
He also played a number of free gigs for NHS staff with Jacqui Abbott that year as a thank you for their efforts throughout the pandemic. “I did it for the nurses and we did one for care workers and they were mad,” Heaton recalled. “For the people who came, particularly the care workers in Sheffield, it just had this massive release. I was actually quite frightened on stage!”
