Liam Gallagher clarifies Oasis reunion status following reports about Wembley Stadium plans
Liam Gallagher has given an update on the status of a possible Oasis reunion, following reports that the band apparently booked concert dates at Wembley Stadium this year.
Earlier today (June 23), Gallagher replied to a fan who asked if a reunion of the band is happening next year. “Nobody’s told me,” he tweeted, “maybe [they’re] getting a new singer like the dude out of Queen”, referring to Adam Lambert’s stint with the classic rock band.

This follows an exclusive report by The Daily Mirror, published yesterday (June 22), which claims Liam and Noel Gallagher had apparently booked dates for an Oasis reunion at Wembley Stadium in July this year, all before plans ultimately fell through.
An anonymous source told The Daily Mirror that fans were close to seeing a reunion this year. “Until now, no one has known how close Liam and Noel came to making it a reality,” the source says. “It doesn’t get much closer than booking Wembley, and their teams were devastated when it all collapsed yet again.”
“But the fact they made it to that point shows there’s a will on both sides. The hope is it will be a case of not if, but when.” When contacted by NME, representatives for Liam declined to comment on the report, while representatives for Noel have yet to respond.
Liam is currently touring in support of the band’s debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’, which turns 30 this year. In February, Liam shared that Noel turned down an opportunity to reunite for the tour.
“I did call him! Well, my people called Noel’s management team,” claimed Liam. “We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing – because we got offered it – and he said no. It was a big tour, a lot of money. He turned it down. I get it, he’s got a divorce going down. I’ll do the ‘Definitely Maybe’ thing and have a nice time without him.”
Liam also reflected on the band’s 2009 demise, revealing to The Sunday Times that tensions came to a head after he swung one of Noel’s guitars “like an axe” backstage at a show in Paris.
“Maybe someone can get a bit tetchy on tour,” he lamented. “Maybe someone drinks a bit too much. But we didn’t have to split up over it.” For now, Liam regularly leaves a seat reserved for Noel, including all shows on the current ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour.
The tour sees Liam digging up early rarities from the band’s catalogue. Last week, Liam debuted a rap verse from a demo of ‘Columbia’, which will be included in the upcoming 30th anniversary edition of ‘Definitely Maybe’.
