2NE1 and YG Entertainment tease “good news” after reunion discussion
Iconic second-generation K-pop group 2NE1 may soon be making a comeback.
On June 28, YG Entertainment shared that 2NE1’s CL, Dara, Park Bom and Minzy met with its executive producer Yang Hyun-suk the day prior. According to the agency, they shared a “extremely meaningful” two-hour discussion.
“As this was [Yang’s] and the 2NE1 members’ first conversation in eight years, although no concrete plans have been made, Yang – who has particular affection for 2NE1 – listened to the members’ requests and empathised with them,” said YG per Soompi. “We are looking forward to being able to convey good news to the fans soon.”
This comes after Korean news outlet OSEN reported earlier this week that the members had set up a meeting with Yang to discuss a potential reunion. In response, YG said that they were “scheduled to meet”, but did not have further details to share.
2NE1 made their debut in 2009 under YG Entertainment, and later became one of the most successful second-generation K-pop acts. They released a slew of hits throughout their career, including ‘Fire’, ‘I Am The Best’, ‘Come Back Home’ and many others.
The group’s music releases eventually slowed, and member Minzy left the act in 2016 after a year-long hiatus. Later that year, YG Entertainment announced 2NE1’s disbandment.
Last month, the four members shared photos from a shoot commemorating their 15th anniversary, sparking rumours of a potential reunion. Prior to that, leader CL invited the group onstage to perform with her at the 88rising takeover during Coachella 2022.
In other K-pop news, BLACKPINK rapper Lisa has made her first comeback since her debut with ‘Lalisa’ three years ago. Her new single ‘Rockstar’ is also her first release under her RCA Records and LLOUD, a management company she established back in February.
