Declan McKenna at Glastonbury on touring with Sabrina Carpenter: “It could wind up being something special”
Declan McKenna has spoken to NME about what fans can expect from his upcoming tour dates with Sabrina Carpenter. Watch the interview above.
The singer-songwriter caught up with NME backstage at Glastonbury 2024, and told us how his support gigs with the ‘Espresso’ hitmaker emerged. He also hinted that he may be mixing up his set to celebrate the milestone.
“I don’t really know how it all came about… I just got an email about it,” he told us. “But I had met her prior to that, briefly at Lollapalooza as she was in a golf buggy. She got out and said hello and we started chatting about each other’s music. Then she went off and it all kind of came through after!”
He continued: “I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity because it’s going to be my first time in arenas. It’s going to be a wild ride. Her shows are really cool and I’m loving all the music she’s putting out, it’s very exciting.”
He also shared what fans could expect from the upcoming shows, and revealed that there may be some special plans underway to take his live shows to the next level.
“I only just put out my album this year so it’s probably going to be a bit of everything,” he said. “I’m definitely going to have to put in some serious preparation for it because I want to do it justice.
“I’m always ready and I’m always out with the band trying to improve on things, so who knows? It could wind up being something special.”
McKenna will hit the road with Carpenter as she embarks on her US tour later this year. The dates kick off on September 23 with an opening night in Columbus, Ohio. From there it’ll make stops across the country through the following two months, before wrapping up in California on November 18. Visit here for remaining tickets.
As well as announcing the upcoming tour with Carpenter, McKenna has also shared details of an upcoming run of shows across the UK for this summer. These include two July gigs in Halifax and Bridlington, and further shows in Bexhill, Nottingham and Edinburgh throughout August. Visit here for tickets to his UK headline gigs.
In other Declan McKenna news, back in February the singer celebrated the release of his new album ‘What Happened to the Beach?’ by performing a rendition of his 2023 single ‘Nothing Works’ on Blue Peter. He also got involved with the regular arts and crafts segment of the show.
