Streaming service Max has released the first season for season two of its hit TV series, The Last Of Us. Watch it below.
The footage for The Last of Us season two was shared by Max today (August 5) as part of a showreel of the HBO streaming platform’s forthcoming offerings for 2024-2025.
Alongside The Last of Us season two, other highly anticipated series teased include The White Lotus season three, along with the debuts of The Penguin, Dune: Prophecy and Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
It appears that The Last of Us season two will adapt the events of the 2023 video game sequel with returning leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, along with new cast members Kaitlyn Denver, Catherine O’Hara and Isabela Merced.

Understandably, due to the much talked-about events of the video game sequel, gamers flooded the comments on Max’s Instagram page warning television viewers unfamiliar with the game.
“All the non gamers aren’t the slightest prepared for this,” wrote Instagram user @olliecosplays. Meanwhile, @dannyclayton noted that scenes in the teaser appear like faithful recreations of the game: “Gamers knew what this trailer was from the first shot before they even saw the title.”
Based on the celebrated PlayStation game of the same name, original series creator Neil Druckmann co-wrote the HBO series and has served as executive producer. A release date for The Last of Us season two has yet to be revealed. However, it is confirmed that the upcoming season will only contain seven episodes.
Showrunner Craig Mazin said of season two’s reduced episode count, compared to season one’s nine episodes: “The story material that we got from Part II of the game is way more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do from the start was figure out how to tell that story across seasons.”
“When you do that, you look for natural breakpoints, and as we laid it out, this season, the national breakpoint felt like it came after seven episodes,” he added.
The first episode of The Last Of Us became HBO’s second biggest premiere in over a decade after House Of The Dragon, racking up 4.7million viewers in the US across HBO and streaming service Max.
