PlayStation users are facing a number of technical issues

PlayStation users are currently experiencing a number of technical issues, including an outage of the PlayStation Network.

The PlayStation Network allows PS4 and PS5 users to play online, purchase games and stream titles via it’s subscription-based service PS+. However the service has been facing significant issues since last night (September 30) and still isn’t online.

According to the PSN service homepage, account management, gaming and social, store and video services are all offline. “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience,” reads a message from Sony.

Sony became aware of the issue at 2am this morning (October 1) and by 10am, some users were reporting that the service was back online, but some are still experiencing issues. Sony hasn’t given a reason for the eight-hours of downtime either.

PSN is experiencing widespread outages across Japan, making many games unplayable.

Even many single player games are useless since a lot of them require an online check.

Earlier this year, Sony caused outrage with Helldivers 2 PC players after forcing them to sign up to the PSN, months after the game had first been released. The PC version of God Of War Ragnarok also needed players to sign up to the service, even though it’s only available in 89 countries around the world and the PC launch of Ghost Of Tsushima was also impacted, with the game unavailable from digital retailers in nearly 200 countries that aren’t serviced by the PSN service.

It’s not the only issue PlayStation users have been facing either. Over the past few weeks, the homescreen of the PS5 has slowly been taken over with huge, outdated ads and imposing promotional images that seemingly couldn’t be removed.

Sony has since confirmed that the new-look homepage was the result of a bug. “A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved. There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5,” wrote the official PlayStation support page on X, shortly before the PSN went down.
