Joe Jonas removes Diddy mention from DNCE’s ‘Cake By The Ocean’

Joe Jonas has removed a mention of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in his band DNCE’s hit song ‘Cake By The Ocean’.

While performing late last month (September 28) with the Jonas Brothers, Joe performed a rendition of his side project DNCE’s ‘Cake By The Ocean’. While this is something Joe has typically done at Jonas Brothers shows, the September 28 performance proved to be unique, as it marked the first time that he had altered the song’s lyrics to remove any mention of Diddy in the wake of the rapper’s sexual abuse and assault allegations and ongoing legal proceedings.

During the performance – which has only recently gone viral on social media – Jonas reworks the lyric “Walk for me, baby / I’ll be Diddy, you’ll be Naomi” to “Walk for me, baby / I’ll be watching you be Naomi”.

The original lyric was in reference to speculation that Diddy had reportedly dated supermodel Naomi Campbell in the 2000s. In the video, Jonas appears to wince before making the lyric edit.

In August, Kesha revealed that she plans to re-record her debut hit single ‘TiK ToK’ once she obtains the legal rights to do so to reflect a change in lyrics from “Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy” to “Wake up in the morning like fuck P Diddy“. At Coachella 2024, Reneé Rapp brought out the Kesha during her set for ‘TiK ToK’, marking the first time the adjusted lyrics were ever performed.

Last month, the rap mogul was arrested in New York and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transporting for prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Diddy was then denied bail despite offering a US$50million bond and was reportedly placed on suicide watch as he awaits trial, though his attorney Marc Agnifilo told TMZ that the directive was issued as a routine measure for “new, high-profile inmates”. Other reports suggested that he was not eating in prison out of fear of being poisoned. The bail denial meant that the rapper has been ordered to remain in jail while awaiting trial.

Earlier this week, Diddy’s attorney Agnifilo shared that an appeal against the bail denial has been filed, with the musician promising that he won’t be meeting any women apart from his family members, and that he would partake in weekly drug tests if released from prison.

It was also reported yesterday that 120 alleged victims are preparing lawsuits against Diddy for alleged sexual abuse, including 25 minors. According to Texan lawyer Tony Buzbee, the majority of the 120 potential cases are expected to be filed sometime this month.

Diddy’s next hearing is scheduled to take place on October 9.

In a new TMZ documentary titled The Downfall of Diddy: The Indictment, the rap mogul’s attorney said he was “actually remarkably positive” while in prison and has “come to terms with the fact that this is where he is for now”, and that he’s “focused on his defence”.
