Halle Berry has landed a lead role in the forthcoming thriller Crime 101.

The star joins Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan, who have already signed on for the Amazon MGM Studios movie.

The film is an adaptation of Don Winslow’s 2021 short story of the same name, which follows a series of high-level jewellery robberies on the Pacific Coast Highway that remain unsolved after years of investigations, mostly because the criminal behind the jobs has lived by a strict code they call Crime 101.

The film is due to begin shooting in two weeks according to Variety and will see American Animals filmmaker Bart Layton direct, while Hemsworth produces alongside Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

Crime 101 is expected to be released in cinemas next year.

Elsewhere, Berry recently spoke out about how her options sometimes “are so limited” as a Black woman in Hollywood.

“As a Black woman, I have never had the luxury of just doing Oscar-worthy performances and movies. I don’t even know what that is. My options at times are so limited, and that’s the reality of it,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “So I don’t have the luxury to just sit and field Oscar buzz movies. That wasn’t my reality, and it’s still not my reality.”

In other news, Berry also recently said that Pierce Brosnan “restored my faith in men” while on the set of their 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day.

Speaking to Wired, Berry shared her resoundingly positive memories of filming with Brosnan. “He will always be my Bond, always,” she said. “I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men on that movie. There couldn’t be a human who is more of a gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.”
