Henry Cavill says ‘Warhammer’ role is “greatest privilege” of career

Henry Cavill has said his involvement in the Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe is “the greatest privilege” of his career.

In 2022, Cavill confirmed he would be “guiding” a Warhammer cinematic universe to life for Amazon. “To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen,” he said at the time.

The announcement came before a creator, director or writer had signed on, and the franchise is still looking to establish “creative guidelines” with Games Workshop, who controls the Warhammer IP. However, Cavill is already excited about the project.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast earlier this year, Cavill called the prospect of building a Warhammer universe of films and TV shows “the greatest privilege” of his career. “It’s still early days but to have the opportunity to bring it to the screen and be at the tiller so it can be faithful, is key. It’s the stuff I’ve been dealing with since I was kid. It’s the stuff I spent my time daydreaming about as an adult. There is no greater reason for why I joined the industry than doing something like this.”

Cavill has always been a vocal fan of Warhammer and earlier this year, he shared a post on social media claiming he wants his first-born making Warhammer figures as soon as they’re able. He’s also recently praised the new Space Marine 2 entry in the franchise while a clip of him correcting Graham Norton about the series has been viewed millions of times.

However it’s been reported that Amazon only has until December 2024 to establish those “creative guidelines” with Games Workshop or Cavill’s Warhammer project will be scrapped.

In other news, characters from horror classics like Saw, Terrifier and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have been added to Fortnite for its annual Fortnitemares Halloween event.
