‘Rick and Morty’ renewed through season 12
Rick and Morty has been renewed through season 12 – find out more below.
Last year, it was announced that Rick and Morty had been picked up all the way through season 10, even before season seven came to an end. Now, Screen Rant is reporting that the animated series is being picked up for an additional two seasons, bringing it to season 12.
Per Screen Rant, the news was announced at the New York Comic Con by executive producers Dan Harmon and Scott Marder. With season eight set to premiere sometime in 2025, that would suggest that a new season of Rick and Morty will air every year until the end of the decade in 2029.
“From Season One, Rick and Morty set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping,” stated Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim. “Dan, Scott and the rest of the immensely talented team behind Rick and Morty are constantly outdoing themselves, and I’ll be joining the millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.”
Additionally, the first look at season eight was unveiled at New York Comic Con. Watch a clip below.
Last year’s season seven marked the show’s first collection of episodes to not feature co-creator Justin Roiland as the voice actor for the two lead characters after he was dismissed from the series following domestic violence allegations. In March 2023, he was cleared of all charges.
Despite being cleared, a network insider said of Roiland’s replacement: “We want the show to speak for itself. We believe in the strength of the season and our new voices and we want to preserve the viewing experience for fans.”
In August, a 10-episode run of Rick and Morty: The Anime began streaming after first being announced in May 2023. The anime series is directed by Takashi Sano (Tower Of God), who previously helmed two anime shorts based on the show, ‘Rick and Morty vs. Genocider’ and ‘Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil)’.
