Sebastian Stan once auditioned for Bono’s ‘Spider-Man’ musical ‘Turn Off The Dark’

Sebastian Stan has revealed that he once auditioned for Bono‘s Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark musical.

The U2 frontman and The Edge scored the Broadway production which first opened in 2011. Ahead of its launch, it was hit by a series of setbacks including injuries to cast members, financial problems and scathing reviews.

It eventually broke Broadway records to become the highest single-week grossing show of all time at the time at the turn of 2012, before the production closed two years later.

Speaking to NME in a new interview with Succession star Jeremy Strong, when asked if either of them ever met any musicians they admire, Stan said: “I actually auditioned, never got it, but I auditioned for the Spider-Man musical that Bono wrote the music for.

“I did a workshop and at one point they were like, ‘Oh, Bono is gonna be watching it. It doesn’t mean you have the part but Bono will be watching.’ Anyway, that was as close as I got. He clearly didn’t [like it because] I clearly didn’t get that part!”

Stan and Strong are currently starring in The Apprentice, which details the rise of Donald Trump (Stan) from his early days as an ambitious real estate businessman in New York City to billionaire property developer.

It focuses particularly on his relationship with mentor Roy Cohn (Strong), the ruthless and feared lawyer who helped Senator Joseph McCarthy jail suspected communists during the ’50s.

The film has drawn the ire of Trump supporters for its often negative portrayal of the former president and, recently, even Trump himself. “A FAKE and CLASSLESS movie written about me, called, ‘The Apprentice’ (Do they even have the right to use that name without approval?), will hopefully ‘bomb’,” he recently wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Meanwhile, Netflix recently turned down the opportunity to acquire the Trump biopic, because “they have millions of MAGA subscribers,” director Ali Abbasi claimed.
