Jessi issues apology after fan was allegedly assaulted in front of her
Korean-American rapper Jessi has apologised for leaving the scene after a fan was allegedly assaulted in front of her.
Earlier this month, JTBC reported that an 18-year-old fan of the rapper had been assaulted by one of her acquaintances after he asked her for a photo. In the included CCTV footage, Jessi was seated outdoors with four acquaintances when the fan approached them, presumably to ask for a photo with the rapper.
One of the men began behaving aggressively towards the fan and while Jessi attempted to intervene, he eventually struck the fan in the face. She quickly left the scene soon after.
After the news broke, Jessi issued an apology on her social media accounts and stated that she had only met the assailant on that day. Per KoreaJoonAngDaily, she also said that she had been “too flustered” by the situation and “failed to carefully consider the fan”. However, she continued to face criticism for the incident.
Yesterday (October 24), she followed up with another apology in a lengthy Instagram post. “I would like to express my apology to the victim and his family who suffered damage due to this incident,” she wrote.
She continued: “Even though the incident wasn’t caused by me, I have hurt many people, including the victim, with my wrong actions, attitude and lack of response from the time the incident occurred until now, and I made them feel betrayed and angry.”
“I know I can’t be forgiven with just words,” Jessi wrote. “But I will try to correct my mistakes and help the victim recover.”
Last week, DOD Entertainment announced the termination of their exclusive contract with Jessi at her request. This comes just a month after she shared that she had launched her music label, UNNI, and signed a management contract with the agency.
