Listen to Lady Gaga’s dramatic new single ‘Disease’

Lady Gaga, 2024

Lady Gaga has dropped the electro-pop-inspired new single ‘Disease’. Check it out below alongside a new lyric video.

Announced today (October 25), the single comes as the first preview of the singer’s highly anticipated new album. While little is known about the LP at time of writing, it has been dubbed as ‘LG7’ by fans and is expected to arrive next February.

With ‘Disease’, Lady Gaga makes her return to pop, and it follows on from ‘Harlequin’ – a companion album to her new film Joker: Folie à Deux which Gaga released last month.

Screamin’ for me, baby/ Like you’re gonna die/ Poison on the inside/ I could be your antidote tonight,” she sings over a pulsing, electronic beat, leading to the chorus.

I could play the doctor/ I can cure your disease/ If you were a sinner/ I could make you believe/ Lay you down like one, two, three/ Eyes roll back in ecstasy/ I can smell your sickness/ I can cure ya/ Cure your disease.”

The song also comes with a new lyric video, which depicts an eerie, horror-tinged aesthetic, as each line from the song flashes on a retro television. Check it out below.

The release of ‘Disease’ comes after Gaga shared a preview of the single online this Wednesday (October 23), and also shared posters for the track in cities around the globe.

The singer had previously teased ‘Disease’ by hiding the track’s title within her Spotify catalogue. She did so by spelling out one song from each of her seven albums in upper case letters, apart from one letter which is lower case.

For example, ‘Dance In The Dark’ from 2009’s ‘The Fame Monster’ is now spelt ‘dANCE IN THE DARK’. When these are all put together, it reads “disease”. Gaga also shared a playlist called ‘.com’ on her Spotify account, arranging the songs to spell out “Gaga disease”.

During an interview with Rolling Stone in September, Gaga explained that she wasn’t “even ready to talk about [her new album] yet”, but promised to share more details on the “unhinged” LP soon. However, she did reveal: “The pop album is nothing like [2020’s] ‘Chromatica’. It’s a completely different record […] What I would say is, it’s all for me.”

Gaga continued: “It’s meant to be ingested as a time in my life. And I’m also really excited about this idea that I don’t have to adhere to an era if I don’t want to. I can have a few going at once. That feels unhinged [laughs]…”

In addition to her role in Joker: Folie à Deux and accompanying the ‘Harlequin’ album, the singer also shared the standalone collaborative single ‘Die With A Smile’ with Bruno Mars.

NME gave the new Joker sequel four stars, saying that Gaga “shines in a provocative prison musical” in her role as Harleen “Lee” Quinzel.
