ITZY unveil stunning new visual for ‘Imaginary Friend’
K-pop girl group ITZY have released a music video for ‘Imaginary Friend’, one of two title tracks from their recent mini-album.
In the striking new visual, each member of the group sit pensively, looking at the bloodied wounds on their hands and faces before pulling off their bandages and letting them float away in a body of water.
“You know, I’m your imaginary friend / You know, I’m here tonight to give you strength / When there’s monsters on your ceiling / I’ll keep you safe and keep you dreaming / You know, I’m your imaginary friend / You know, I’m, it’s you and I until the end,” they sing in the chorus.
In a recent interview with The Recording Academy, leader Yeji shared that she was “worried” about recording the song because the group had “never sung a song that feels this dreamy and fantastical before”.
‘Imaginary Friend’ is one of two lead singles from ITZY’s ninth mini-album ‘GOLD’, which they released alongside the music video for their song of the same name earlier this month.
‘GOLD’ notably marked ITZY’s first comeback as a complete group since their July 2023 mini-album ‘Kill My Doubt’, which was led by the single ‘CAKE’.
Vocalist Lia went on hiatus due to health issues two months after that release, and did not participate in their January 2024 studio album ‘Born to Be’ apart from one solo song. The singer was also absent from their ‘Born to Be’ world tour, which took place from February to August this year.
In other K-pop news, Girls’ Generation singer Taeyeon has announced her upcoming return with her new solo mini-album ‘Letter To Myself’, due out next month.
