‘Alien: Isolation’ can now be completed in under a minute

Alien: Isolation players can now complete the game’s campaign in under a minute, thanks to a new mod.

Originally released in 2014, Alien: Isolation is a survival horror set 15 years after the events of the original 1979 film and follows the daughter of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley as she investigates her mother’s disappearance.

The game received critical acclaim when it was released, though a few reviews complained that Alien: Isolation was too long. According to How Long To Beat, the main campaign should take the average player around 19 hours to complete, though those looking to finish all the side-quests and uncover all the secrets will take closer to 35.

“It may seem strange to complain that a game’s too long, but when the genuine scares of being hunted by an unstoppable predator are so diluted by repetition and padding, Isolation’s epic length really does work against it,” wrote IGN in their review.

However, one fan has tried to right those wrongs with a new mod (via PC Gamer). Released earlier this week, the Impossible Campaign mod “introduces a new opening mission for Alien: Isolation which rewrites the story to make the game around a minute in length.”

“In an attempt to please IGN, this mod substantially shortens Alien: Isolation‘s playable length by introducing Xenomorphs to LV426. As a result of the inevitable fatalities, Marlow’s team never discover Ellen Ripley’s flight recorder, and subsequently never arrive on Sevastopol to cause the Xenomorph outbreak. The game usually ends in under a minute,” explained creator Matt Filer.

Filer has created his own OpenCAGE modding toolkit for Alien: Isolation which he’s also used to replace the Xenomorphs with Thomas The Tank Engine.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is currently in the works. The game also inspired the recently released Alien: Romulus film. “It was kind of what made me see that Alien could truly [still] be terrifying and done well,” explained director Fede Álvarez.
