Fontaines D.C. share Andrea Arnold-directed video for ‘Bug’ starring Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski, Nykiya Adams and more
Fontaines D.C. have shared their new video for ‘Bug’ featuring the stars from the film Bird including Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski, Nykiya Adams and more.
Andrea Arnold, director of the forthcoming movie, which is out in UK and US cinemas this Friday (November 8), was also at the helm of the music video, that features unseen footage from the film.
Fontaines’ music also features prominently in the movie while the band’s guitarist Carlos O’Connell also makes a cameo in Bird.
“I’ve loved Fontaines since I first heard them. Some music just sits in your bones like it always belonged, like you know it already, like it’s part of you,” said Arnold. “It’s why I asked to use [Fontaines songs] ‘Too Real’ and ‘A Hero’s Death’ for my Bird film. Their music felt like it belonged there, in my world.”
Arnold added: “They were immediately generous in letting me use those tracks which was just fucking brilliant. That generosity brought energy which gets poured into the life of the film. I am grateful for all the positive energy that comes when you make a film.
“Extending the images and my Bird world for the ‘Bug’ track felt like the most natural thing in the world, like part of the same thing. I wouldn’t have done it had I not felt that and I would hardly do it for anyone.”
O’Connell added: “Andrea Arnold was kind enough to cut up a sequence to our tune ‘Bug’ featuring Barry Keoghan playing the character in her new movie.
“In my eyes the character Bug, the tattoo ‘Bug’s Life’, Andrea’s essential and romantic worlds and the line, ‘Changed my name to promise you yea‘; when all put together make convincing, needless and conviction undeniable.”
The film, which also features songs by Blur and Sleaford Mods, scored a five star review from NME.
“With scenes of harrowing violence, the film often feels totally unsafe: no adult’s motives are beyond reproach,” it read. “In true Andrea Arnold style, though, it’s also a life-enhancing tale that soars with unexpected grace, optimism and faith in humanity. Make sure you stick around for the joyous closing credits sequence, which boasts yet more Fontaines and a sense of freedom and release that sums up this extraordinary movie.”
Meanwhile, Fontaines D.C. recently announced a new slate of headlining US tour dates for next year.
The 2025 trek consists of 18 dates, beginning in April and ending in May. Stops include Denver, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Columbus, Detroit, New York and more. Confirmed venues and supporting acts have yet to be announced. You can get your tickets here.
Later this month, Chatten and Co. will embark on their 2024 UK and Ireland headline tour. That stint includes two nights at Alexandra Palace in the capital. You can purchase tickets here.
Last month, the band announced a massive headlining show at Cardiff Castle in late July 2025. The Cardiff slot comes as the Irish band have already announced two other huge shows for next year. The first of those is at London’s Finsbury Park – due to take place on Saturday, July 5. It will mark their biggest headline performance to date, with support coming from Amyl And The Sniffers and Kneecap.
