World reacts to Donald Trump’s speech declaring US election victory: “We are so over as a nation”

Onlookers across the world have been sharing their reactions to Donald Trump‘s speech, in which he declared victory in the US election.

In the early hours of this morning (November 6), he addressed his supporters in Florida at his campaign’s election night watch party in West Palm Beach, and, despite votes in key states still being counted, said it was a “magnificent victory for the American people” while also claiming he had also won the popular vote.

As was reported earlier today, the Republican nominee and former POTUS currently needs just one more state to officially take him over the winning threshold of 270 electoral college votes, per BBC News. This would officially secure his return to the White House, beating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, making him the first ex-President to go back to the role in more than 130 years.

However, Harris has not yet conceded. She was scheduled to address the US last night (Tuesday November 5), but has postponed her speech until today (Wednesday November 6).

In his speech, Trump told his supporters: “This will truly be the golden age of America—that’s what we have to have,” and he promised to “help our country heal.” He said the US needed help “very badly”, and went on to say he intended to “fix our borders” and “everything about our country”.

“You know, we had no wars [for] four years,” he continued. “We had no wars except we defeated ISIS. We defeated ISIS in record time and but we had no wars. They said: ‘He will start a war.’ I’m not going to start a war. I’m going to stop wars. But this is also a massive victory for democracy and for freedom.”

He also referenced the shooting that took place at one of his political rallies in Pennsylvania on July 13, and said: “Many people have told me that god has spared my life for a reason and that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness and now we are going to fulfil that mission together.”

Trump said America’s future will be “bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer and stronger than it has ever been before,” and nodded to Elon Musk, calling him “a super genius” and saying “a star is born”.

Elsewhere in the speech, in a moment that has overtaken social media, Trump invited UFC CEO Dana White to speak briefly. “This is what happens when the machine comes after you,” he said. “This is karma, ladies and gentlemen. He deserves this.”

With podcasting having become a political battleground in recent months, White also gave shout outs to a series of internet personalities, thanking “The Nelk Boys, Aiden Ross, Theo Von, Bussin’ With The Boys, and last but not least, the mighty and powerful Joe Rogan.”
