Henry Cavill was told he was “too old” for ‘Stormlight Archive’ adaptation
Henry Cavill was told he was “too old” to play Kaladin in a potential adaptation of Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive.
In a new interview on the Instagram fan page @cosmere_junkie, Sanderson recounted the time he received a call from Cavill enquiring about the role.
“When Henry Cavill called me and was like, ‘I’m too old for Kaladin, aren’t I?’ I was like, ‘Yes, and he’s also Asian,'” the author recalled.
Despite the pair both being aware that Cavill wouldn’t be an appropriate choice, Sanderson said he was still happy to receive the call. “He had read the books and knew that it just wouldn’t work, but it was kind of heartbreaking when he called me,” he said. “He was like, ‘Man, I don’t think I can be Kaladin, can I?’ And I was like, ‘No, I don’t think you can be.’”
Some fans, however, appear not to care that Cavill isn’t the right age or race. “I don’t care if it breaks the lore. If Henry gets to play Kal, I’m here for it!” wrote one Instagram user in one of the most-liked comments on the video.
While it seems the pair won’t be working together on a potential Stormlight Archive adaptation, Sanderson did express his desire to collaborate at some point in the future.
“I’m sure I’ll work with Henry on something at some point. He’s a cool guy, and an uber nerd, and he makes cool stuff.”
In other news, Cavill previously stated that his involvement in the Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe is “the greatest privilege” of his career.
“It’s still early days but to have the opportunity to bring it to the screen and be at the tiller so it can be faithful, is key,” he said. “It’s the stuff I’ve been dealing with since I was kid. It’s the stuff I spent my time daydreaming about as an adult. There is no greater reason for why I joined the industry than doing something like this.”
