Elton John has hinted at new music during a recent interview on US TV – you can check out the video below.

The legendary singer-songwriter appeared as a guest on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night (December 17), to promote his new documentary film Never Too Late.

Towards the end of the conversation, John reflected on his retirement from live touring last year, saying: “It’s the most fantastic thing in the world […] I ended on a high – my voice was great, the piano playing was great, the band was great.

“There are other things I want to do with my life that are more important than touring.”

However, the ‘Rocket Man’ icon went on to assure fans that he’s “still gonna make records” and “have a musical future” as he focuses on his family life.

“You will be getting some more [music],” John told host Colbert.

“The juices have never dried up. They never want to dry up because I’m always looking to create things. It’s just having the space now to do it at my own time.”

He concluded: “Of course there will be new Elton John music.”

John released his star-studded collaborative album ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ in 2021. Last month, the musician and Brandi Carlile released a new song together called ‘Never Too Late’ – written for the doc of the same name. It was reported in late 2023 that the pair had completed a full record together.

Previously, John revealed that he had completed a new LP with his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. Taupin then said this May that the star was preparing to surprise release his next studio album.

But in another recent interview, John explained that he was struggling to make new music due to a severe eye condition. “I can’t see a lyric for a start,” he said. He has since told fans that he has “lost [his] eyesight”.

In October, John said “there’s not much of [him] left” following multiple surgeries as a result of his health issues. Later that month, however, he made a guest appearance at Dua Lipa’s special Royal Albert Hall show in London.

NME gave Disney+’s Never Too Late a three-star review, saying that the film is a “respectful and tender” way to “bookend [John’s] incredible performing career”.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Elton John scraps a song if he can’t nail a melody within an hour.
