Speaking to Real Sound alongside co-star Reina Ueda (Cha Hae-in), the actor teased that his character will be even more impressive during the second season.
“(Jin-woo) has undergone a huge change, both mentally and physically” he said, adding that the character may be heading in an unexpected direction. “All of these levelling ups have meaning. Story-wise, Jin-woo’s path is not bright, and he is heading in a dark direction”.
The actor explained that what makes the anime different to the original manga is the opportunity to express the characters’ transformations through voice acting. “In the anime, we were able to show this growth through the animation and music” he said. “I hope you will watch Jin-woo gain new powers in Season two and see what path he will take.”
Ueda agreed: “Thanks to being able to record that part with everyone, it was easier to gauge the breathing, or the balance of the voices, and I feel like I was able to convey a sense of strength and fighting power in Hae-in’s voice”.
Debuting as a web-comic in 2016, Solo Leveling was made into an anime with the first season debuting in 2024. Set in a world where hunters with mysterious powers hunt monsters, Sun Jin-Woo finds a way to level up his abilities, turning from one of the weakest hunters to the most formidable.
NME’s four-star review described it as “an addictive anime that deserves all the hype it’s getting”.
Episodes of Solo Leveling season two will air in the UK on Crunchyroll. Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, a compilation film of the first season, arrived in cinemas last December.
