The White Stripes have announced a special 20th-anniversary reissue of their fifth album ‘Get Behind Me Satan‘.

Titled ‘Get Behind Me Satan XX’, the new reissue serves as a companion release to Jack and Meg White‘s 2005 LP and features songwriting demos, alternate studio takes and live versions of the tracks found on the original album.

A 2xLP vinyl package featuring an additional 7″ as well as a Blu-ray containing footage from the band’s 2005 Central and South American tour, and more will be available via The Vault –  Third Man Record’s long-running vinyl subscription service. Fans can subscribe for the package here. The deadline for the ‘Get Behind Me Satan XX’ package is January 31, 2025 at 12am CT.

Speaking about the album in the caption of their latest post, Third Man Records shared: “Often mistaken as a break-up album, a treatise on fame, or a “piano” album, the record is most accurately described in Jack White’s own words as focused on the truth. The fact that it was in no way ‘Elephant’, Part 2 only further confused, infuriated, and/or beguiled many.”

They continued: “Twenty years later and the album still stands out for how fresh and how timeless it sounds. In the face of newfound worldwide commercial success, no other contemporary rock band had the stones to introduce mandolin, tympani, hand bells and marimba into their arsenal, let alone embark on deep tours of both Central America and Eastern Europe.

“But as has long been established, the White Stripes were singular. They were never like anybody else. What enchants now, upon further reflection, is the disparate threads that all came together to make Satan so refreshing.

In a 8 out of 10 review of ‘Get Behind Me Satan’ upon its original release, NME shared: “This is a very brave record, but ultimately one which, after many listens, becomes as beguiling and seductive as old Nick himself. In a world of fakers, careerists and time-servers, The White Stripes are the real, strange, artistic deal. It’ll be a long time before Jack and Meg sell their souls.”

In other news, Jack White recently paid tribute to his former White Stripes bandmate Meg White on her 50th birthday with a post on social media.

The rocker took to his official Instagram account and shared a Polaroid of Meg  – the drummer of The White Stripes and his ex-wife. The post’s accompanying caption read: “HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY to my big sister, the great Meg White. There’s only one of you Meggo, they broke the mold. You’re still inspiring people, including me. Love you so much.”

Elsewhere, the ‘Over and Over and Over’ singer’s most recent solo release was 2024’s ‘No Name‘. In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “This is an ode to the mystique of rock’n’roll and to the joy of music at its most physical and playful. Teasing doesn’t always lead to satisfaction. Just cut to the chase – and this one’s a bone-rattling ride. White’s revelling in the real world and has made it a much more thrilling place.”

White is set to embark on a 2025 North American tour next month as well as head over to Japan for a string of shows in the country. Visit here for a full list of tour dates and to purchase tickets.
