Latin Remix of the Week: Lola Índigo, Maria Becerra & Villano Antillano’s ‘La Reina (Remix)’

In our Latin Remix of the Week series, we spotlight remixes that the Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors deem exceptional and distinct. We might not publish a review every week. This is our selection today.

Lola Índigo‘s breakthrough hit “La Reina” — a highly energetic track rich in merengue rhythms and laced with EDM, produced by Andrés Torres and Mauricio Rengifo — gets revisited seven months later, after amassing over 72 million Spotify streams and 30 million YouTube views along the way.

Its remix, which elevates the original through the inclusion of powerhouse vocal talents, enhances the dance-floor hit. Enter Argentine pop sensation Maria Becerra and Puerto Rican rapper Villano Antillano joining the Spanish sensation, who infuse the new version with charisma, female empowerment, and a dash of audacity.

The lyrics in the remix showcase a creative evolution from the original, swapping minimalistic motifs for richer, more complex ones. For instance, Villano Antillano’s verse transitions smoothly into Lola Índigo’s, reiterating themes of dominance and sovereignty with lines like “Oh no, qué escándalo/ Que Villana fue evitá’ con otro bándalo” (“Oh no, what a scandal/ That Villana was avoided with another scandal”).

In the music video, all three artists appear in glamorous outfits against a lavish setting, reflecting the elegance and power encapsulated in the song’s theme.

“‘La Reina (Remix)’ is the first preview of Lola Indigo’s new artistic phase. It’s a gift that embraces anyone who wants to shine in the club, but also in life, as Lola Indigo is not alone at the top; she’s setting the pace for an entire generation,” says the press release.

The Granada-born artist will kick off her three-date stadium tour on June 14 at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, making stops in Sevilla and Barcelona.
