Grimes defends Elon Musk’s gaming skills as a point of “personal pride”

Grimes and Elon Musk

Grimes has defended Elon Musk’s skills as a gamer following allegations that the tech-billionaire takes the credit for other people’s achievements.

Elon Musk has always been a fan of gaming, but in recent years his abilities have been called into question. Back in 2022, his Elden Ring set-up was widely mocked for being terrible and earlier this year, he struggled with the basic features of action role-playing game Path Of Exile 2 during a Twitch stream, despite claiming to be behind one of the highest ranked characters in the game.

Several gamers, including YouTuber Asmongold, have now accused Musk of either buying the account, or having somebody play the game for him. Asmongold also claimed he had cheated in Diablo 4.

Last year, Musk announced he was the number one Diablo 4 player after clearing a level 150 pit in under two minutes and over the weekend, ex-partner Grimes took to social media to vouch for him.

“Just for my personal pride, I would like to state that the father of my children was the first American druid in Diablo to clear Abattoir of Zir and ended that season as best in the USA,” she wrote.

“He was also ranking in Polytopia, and beat [creator] Felix himself at the game. I did observe these things with my own eyes. There are other witnesses who can verify this. That is all.”

Musk then thanked Grimes for the post of support but the reaction from other gamers was mixed. “I respect Elon’s past gaming record but there are reasonable suspicions that he had help with Path of Exile 2. There’s no shame in that because its insanely hard and he’s very busy, but he should be honest,” wrote one user, with Grimes agreeing with the post.

“U got hacked?” asked another fan. “No. I just don’t wanna deal with this but here we are. Now I’m returning to my realm,” said Grimes.

Last year, Grimes opened up about her custody battle with Musk over their children. In 2023, the musician sued Musk over the custody rights to their third child. “Tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer,” she wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

Last week, Musk claimed gaming was his “recreational activity” with the rest of his time split between being a father and running companies like Tesla and SpaceX. “Some days are real tough, so playing video games is my strange solace.”

In other news, American gamers are still unable to play Marvel Snap after it was caught up in the TikTok takedown that happened over the weekend.
