Doechii‘s reaction to an awkward joke Trevor Noah made about “illegal immigrants” at the 2025 Grammy Awards is going viral – you can check it out below.

Last night (February 2), Trevor Noah returned to host his fifth consecutive Grammy Awards. During his opening monologue, he made a joke seemingly in protest to Donald Trump‘s tariff against immigrants, forcing thousands of people to be deported from the United States since he returned to the White House last month.

Noah said during his monologue: “We’re going to be honoring the best in music as voted on by the 13,000 members of the Recording Academy and 20 million illegal immigrants. And tonight, no matter what happens, history will be made.”

The joke fell flat, with many in attendance visibly reacting to the dig, especially since Noah was born in South Africa. Among the biggest reactions was Doechii’s, who was sat right beside him.

Upon hearing what he had said, Doechii gave him a quick glare before rolling her eyes. The footage has since been shared on social media over 14,000 times, with over 174,000 likes.

Like Doechii, social media isn’t taking to the “joke” too well. Some comments written below the post shared read “I don’t even get why he said that”, “a South African making this joke…” and “Why did he feel the need to put a joke there and why does he think that that’s a joke? How does that even correlate to the Grammys? How does he correlate to the Grammys? Why is he still famous?”.

Elsewhere at the Grammys, Doechii had a big night. Besides making her debut performance on the Grammys stage, she won Best Rap Album and was nominated for Best New Act, though she ultimately lost out to Chappell Roan. In the hours since the Grammys concluded, Doechii has dropped a new song, with an image of the Grammys trophy on the cover.
