Watch Doja Cat play ‘The Sims’ to celebrate 25th anniversary of iconic game
Doja Cat joined the 25th anniversary celebrations for The Sims last night with a chaotic stream of the hit game.
The Sims originally launched on February 4, 2000 and went on to become one of the most popular games of all time. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, developers EA re-released The Sims and The Sims 2 on PC last week and yesterday (February 4), launched a star-studded 25-hour streaming marathon.
Featuring a number of well-known The Sims creators as well as drag queens Trixie and Katya, the mammoth livestream kicked off at 10pm GMT last night and will end at 11pm tonight.
One of the first people to get involved was longtime fan Doja Cat. “I’ve been playing The Sims since I was nine and I played [all of them], even the ones in the future,” she said.

“I came up with a cute little concept where I make 15 Bella Goths, could have been interesting to make 300 of ‘em because I’m a maximalist, but we’re going to take 15 of them from two different households and we’re going to make them run amok,” Doja explained at the start of her stream. “Bella Goth is the most iconic character in The Sims franchise. She’s everything.”
After a few minutes of pleasantries, Doja Cat then started a fight between the different Bellas. “I think where things get interesting is when there’s discourse…so I’m just going to make them hate each other, because that’s fun.”

After 30 minutes of chaos, Doja then started wrapping things up. “This game is more than filling houses with ovens, making toast and torturing people. There’s so much more to this game. I think that the most important thing to know is that you can create your own scenarios, characters, experiences and you can take it wherever you want to take it,” she said as her The Sims house caught fire.
“I tried to find the quickest thing that was mildly entertaining that I could do in 30 minutes, and making them make eggs and toast 500 times until the stove caught on fire, was the first thing I could think of. I don’t know what else to do.
“I know you have way better ideas,” she added, encouraging viewers to play The Sims. “Do your thing, because that’s what I do.” She then teased a “special birthday treat” coming tomorrow (February 6). You can watch Doja Cat’s whole stream here.
Doja Cat has previously shared her love for The Sims but admitted she modded the game so much, her characters became drug kingpins.
In other news, EA have confirmed that the next game in the long-running franchise won’t be a direct sequel to 2014’s The Sims 4. “The way to think about it is, historically, The Sims franchise started with Sims 1 and then Sims 2, 3, and 4. And they were seen as replacements for the previous products,” Sims general manager Kate Gorman explained. “We are not going to be working on replacements of previous projects [any more]; we’re only going to be adding to our universe.”
In other news, Elden Ring players are selling early access to Nightreign for up to £350 on eBay – even though it goes against the rules.
