Starring Timothée Chalamet as the iconic singer-songwriter, the film portrays Dylan through his early days as a folk musician until his renowned switch to electrical instruments at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

Other cast members in the biopic include Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, and Elle Fanning as Dylan’s then-girlfriend Sylvie Russo, who is based on Suze Rotolo.

At the time of writing, the film doesn’t have a release date on streaming services. We do know, however, that it will stream first on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.

While Disney has yet to confirm a release date, films typically take around three months to land on streaming platforms after they arrive in cinemas. A Complete Unknown debuted in UK cinemas on January 17, 2025, so it’s possible it could arrive around mid-April.

When will the film be available to buy digitally?

Before it is released on streaming, A Complete Unknown will be made available to buy on digital platforms. This date, however, is yet to be confirmed by Disney.

Films distributed by Searchlight Pictures, which is owned by Disney, are typically given a 45-day exclusivity window in cinemas. This can be extended though if it’s performing well at the box office.

Based on this, the earliest we can expect A Complete Unknown on digital platforms in the UK is late-February or early March.
