Newtopia star Park Jeong-min has opened up about his experience working alongside BLACKPINK’s Jisoo on the upcoming K-drama.

Park Jeong-min and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, the stars of the upcoming K-drama Newtopia, recently spoke with Variety about the new series. During the interview, the pair opened up about their experience acting alongside one another on set for the first time and the work they’ve put into the series.

The new zombie series follows military conscript Lee Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min), who recently broke up with his college girlfriend, Kang Young-joo (Jisoo). As a zombie apocalypse ensues and takes over Seoul, the pair navigate through the carnage as they seek to deepen their romance.

“It’s more adorable, humorous and light-hearted – a true zombie romantic comedy, a ‘zom-com,’” Park said. “That uniqueness was what made me want to be part of this project.”

He also added that his instant chemistry with co-star Jisoo also played a large role in expanding the series as a romance: “From the very first moment, the chemistry between us was great and it was easy to form a close bond.”

Park also described Jisoo as “a wonderful person who never shows any signs of negativity”, telling the outlet that his close work with the K-pop idol “helped me stay connected to my character’s emotions throughout the filming process”.

“Thanks to her, it made portraying her romantic partner in the series feel natural and enjoyable,” he added. Newtopia will premiere February 7 interntially on Prime Video.
