‘Hogwarts Legacy’ will be expanded before a sequel comes out

It looks like Hogwarts Legacy fans could be getting an expansion ahead of a sequel.

Hogwarts Legacy was released in 2023 and went on to become one of the biggest selling games of the year, despite middling reviews and backlash towards Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling over her “anti-trans” comments on social media.

Shortly after Hogwarts Legacy was launched, game director Alan Tew said developer Avalanche Software wasn’t working on new content. “We’ve been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life, so at the moment there are no current plans for DLC,” he explained.

Since then, a PlayStation 5 Pro update for Hogwarts Legacy went live and earlier this month, official mod support was confirmed. In November, Warner Bros. announced that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is the studio’s highest priority and will tie into HBO’s Harry Potter remake. However the adaptation has now been pushed back to 2027.

In a new report by Blomberg, it’s said Avalanche are now working on “new content for Hogwarts Legacy as well as a sequel.” The same article mentions a “refreshed” version of the game.

It comes after the lukewarm response to Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and the recent cancellation of MultiVersus cost Warner Bros. Games $100million (£80million).

“We have known for some time that fans are looking for more things in this world, and so we’re spending a lot of time thinking about that,” president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment David Haddad explained last year. “Our insights tell us that there are not huge distinctions between a younger version of a fan and an older version of a fan. They’re just deep ‘Harry Potter’ fans, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them.”

Some fans are expecting the DLC to act as a bridge between Hogwarts Legacy and the sequel. The original game is set in the 1800s while the new title will tie into the adventures of Harry Potter, which took place between 1991 and 1998.

In the same article, it’s reported that a new game in the beloved Batman: Arkham series is in the works, though it will be “years” before you can play it.

In other news, Sony has apologised after its PlayStation Network went offline for 24 hours and left users unable to play a majority of their games.
