Dream Theater cancelled their scheduled show in Atlanta, Georgia last night (February 11) due to illness.

The progressive metal band kicked off the North American leg of their 40th anniversary tour last Wednesday (February 7). Following gigs in Philadelphia, Raleigh and Nashville, they were due to perform at the Coca-Cola Roxy venue in Atlanta yesterday.

However, the group shared a statement on social to confirm that the concert would not be going ahead as planned.

“We regret to inform you that tonight’s show in Atlanta has been cancelled due to illness,” the message began. “Here’s a message from @jameslabrie.”

The frontman told fans: “To everyone attending tonight’s show in Atlanta I sincerely apologise for having to cancel the show tonight due to being sick.

“I hope to get through this as quickly as possible and resume putting on amazing shows throughout the remaining NA dates. Thank you and see you soon.”

Dream Theater signed off by telling ticketholders to “stay tuned for more information regarding the rescheduled date for Atlanta, GA”. You can see the post below.

The band’s North American tour is set to resume in Biloxi, Mississippi tonight (February 12), with the trek then continuing throughout February and March.

Late last year, Dream Theater concluded the UK and European leg of their ongoing 40th anniversary tour – which began with a show at London’s O2 in October. The gig in the capital marked the group’s first performance with drummer Mike Portnoy in 14 years.

Portnoy later played a concert in Croatia shortly after finding out that his sister had died, and paid tribute to her with an emotional rendition of ‘The Spirit Carries On’.

Last month, Dream Theater released a song called ‘Midnight Messiah’ from their new album ‘Parasomnia’. It marked the first track from the band to feature lyrics by Portnoy in 16 years.

“It was great writing lyrics again and contributing this chapter to the Parasomnia story,” he said.

‘Parasomnia’, which arrived last Friday (February 7), is the first Dream Theater record with founding member Portnoy since 2009’s ‘Black Clouds & Silver Linings’.
