What is the ‘Yellowjackets’ theme song?

Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets is back for its third season, but what is the show’s theme song? Read on for all the info.

The first two episodes of the new season premiere on Paramount+ on Sunday (February 16), its return to screens coming two years after the conclusion of the second season in May 2023.

Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, the mystery thriller series follows a girls’ football team in 1996 who, while travelling to a tournament in Seattle, crash-land in the Canadian wilderness and are left stranded for 19 months. Between their attempts to survive, the show also jumps to their adult lives in the present day.

It stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis among the adult cast, while Ella Purnell, Sophie Thatcher and Jasmin Savoy Brown are among the younger cast members.

NME recently spoke to Thatcher, who is also known for her roles in Companion and Heretic, about the new season. “I’m dying to see the finished episodes because I’m such a big fan of the show,” she said. “Natalie is the leader this time around. It’s a weird turning point and in the first episode, you see her where she’s maybe the healthiest she’s ever been. You can expect it to not remain that way though and that’s all I’m going to say.”

What is the Yellowjackets theme song?

The distinctive theme song for the show is ‘No Return’, written and recorded by the series’ composers Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker.

Wedren is the former frontman of the alt-rock band Shudder To Think and has gone on to compose for titles including Wet Hot American Summer and Role Models, while Waronker was the singer and guitarist in ‘90s indie punk band That Dog and has gone on to work on Shrill and Josie And The Pussycats.

The theme, which has been covered by Alanis Morissette, makes use of the Farfisa organ, which Wedren and Waronker told Variety in 2023 gave the tune a “fun and spooky” edge and a “classic” thriller sound.
