Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was released back in 2020 and reworked the first two games in the beloved skating franchise. As well as an updated soundtrack, the game featured reworked levels, polished controls and a number of new skaters, including Tyshawn Jones.
In 2022, it was confirmed plans for a remastered version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 were scrapped after developers Vicarious Visions merged with Activision Blizzard. “[Activision] were trying to find someone to do 3+4 but they didn’t trust anyone the way they did Vicarious, so they took other pitches from other studios, like “what would you do with the THPS title?” and they didn’t like anything they heard, and that was it,” said Hawk.
However in September last year, Hawk confirmed “something” was in the works. “I wish I could tell you more, but I can tell you that I’ve been talking to Activision again, we’re working on something. It will be something the fans will truly appreciate,” he added.
Now Tyshawn Jones seems to have accidentally confirmed a new remaster is in the works. Speaking on The Breakfast Club podcast, he said: “I’m in a Tony Hawk coming out, that’s cool… They got a new one they’re remastering so that’s about to come out.”
Last year, Hawk celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first Pro Skater game and teased a “future” for the franchise.
Reflecting on the legacy of the games, he wrote: “My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders. I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and – as some have argued – change the course of skateboarding’s popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution).
“It definitely changed the course of my life, and is a big reason that I get to ride my skateboard for a living to this very day. And most of the featured characters are still out there ripping and representing skateboarding’s diversity in the best ways possible.”
