Alan Ritchson says fellow Christians tell him off for ‘Jack Reacher’ “unmarried sex scenes”

Reacher

Reacher star Alan Ritchson has revealed in an interview that fellow Christians call him out for the behaviour of its characters.

Since 2022, Ritchson has played the title role in Reacher, a television adaptation of the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child. The character is a drifted and former U.S. Army military policeman who travels the country solving injustice. The third season of the Amazon Prime Video series is released today (February 20), with a fourth confirmed to be in development.

The American actor, who has spoken openly about the importance of faith in his life, shared with GQ that the criticism puzzles him. “People have this weird relationship with fictional characters, and sort of equate that to the real human being” he said.

“I don’t have that problem, making that distinction. I get criticized a lot by Christians who are like, ‘How dare you have an unmarried sex scene on TV and then talk about Jesus?’ I’m sorry—I doubt that’s going to be part of the conversation when I’m standing at the pearly gates!”

Ritchson has also played action roles on the big screen, teaming up with Henry Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and appearing in the most recent Fast and Furious film, 2023’s Fast X. Despite this association, the actor had other plans for his career.

“I wanted to be a top comedic star” he said. “I was compared to Ryan Reynolds once. They’re like, ‘You’re a leading man, but funny. Ryan Reynolds is the only other guy in town doing it. You can pick up all the jobs he had!’”

As well as the forthcoming seasons, is was also revealed recently that Reacher would be getting a spin-off based on Maria Stern’s character. Last year, Ritchson opened up about his mental health struggles, which included a suicide attempt and being sexually assaulted.
