‘Jury Duty’ confirmed for season two at Amazon

Jury Duty

Jury Duty will return for a second season at Amazon, it has been confirmed.

According to a Deadline report, not only has a second season of Jury Duty been picked up at Amazon – it’s already been filmed. While a release date has yet to be announced, sources tell Deadline that it will air on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Additionally, the theme and setting of Jury Duty season two has been revealed, with sources telling Deadline that it was revolve around a small business going on a retreat and things take a turn. It will be inspired by classic David vs Goliath stories.

The premise of Jury Duty sees one real, unsuspecting juror sit in on a trial that unbeknownst to them is completely scripted and fabricated. Apart from the real juror, all other jury duty members, judges, lawyers and more are actors who have put together a fake case, resulting in hilarious and awkward encounters.

Season one of Jury Duty – which earned several Golden Globe and Emmy nominations – starred real, unsuspecting juror Ronald Gladden alongside alternate versions of James Marsden and more.

Throughout the course of the show, Ronald (who believes he is taking part in an educational documentary about the legal system) puts up with the eccentric behaviour of his fellow jurors, including Marsden. The final episode of season one saw the producers award Ronald $100,000 (£79,560) for proving himself to be a “hero” and genuinely nice guy.

Jury Duty‘s first season premiered on Amazon’s free service Freevee, which has since shut down. Season two is due to premiere on Prime Video.

Following the conclusion of season one, NME spoke to the show’s creators to talk about how they were able to pull off such a creative idea, which they claimed they had no backup for, meaning if Ronald had opened the wrong door on set and saw the production crew, the show would’ve fallen apart.
