George R.R. Martin might not be involved in ‘Elden Ring’ movie due to ‘Game Of Thrones’ delay
George R.R. Martin has confirmed there is “some talk” of an Elden Ring movie – but he might not be involved.
Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin helped with some of the world-building of Elden Ring, creating “the backstory and history” of the hit game. However he wasn’t involved in the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC or upcoming spin-off Nightreign.
Last year, Martin hinted that an adaptation of Elden Ring was in the works. “I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, what rumour,” he wrote on his blog.
In a new interview with IGN about his involvement in the franchise going forward, Martin said: “Well, I can’t say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring.”
“We’ll see if [the Elden Ring movie] comes to pass and what the extent of my involvement was, I don’t know,” he added. “I’m a few years behind with my latest book, so that also limits the amount of things that I can do.”
George R.R. Martin has released five of the seven planned Game Of Thrones books, with the most recent A Dance With Dragons coming back in 2011. The sixth book in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series, The Winds Of Winter, was originally due for release in 2015 but still isn’t finished.
And last year, Martin admitted the book might never be finished. “[Winds Of Winter] is still a priority. A lot of people are already writing obituaries for me: ‘Oh, he’ll never be finished!’ Maybe they’re right. I don’t know. I’m alive right now! I seem pretty vital!”
Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has also said there’s an “active” interest in an adaptation of the game, but only if he and the rest of FromSoftware weren’t too heavily involved. “I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation of Elden Ring, a movie for example. But I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play,” he explained.
In other news, a tech company has rolled back their claims the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 will be launching early next year.
